Detailed guide

Edit Client

The client maintenance form for correcting or refreshing customer information.

Use this form to create a clean record the first time or safely update an existing one without guessing which field drives downstream behavior.

Quick summary

  • Correct contact details and keep the client record reliable for future work.

Put it into practice

  1. Start by confirming you opened the intended client record, especially when similar names exist. Validate current name and key contact details before editing any field.

InteractionsClients list or Client Detail: open Edit Client for the target account and verify the header identity first.
    Open workflow: Client Detail
  2. Change only the fields that are objectively stale or wrong. Preserve stable identity fields unless there is a confirmed legal or ownership change.

InteractionsEdit Client form: update only incorrect identity, contact, or company values.
  3. Review commercial context values before saving so you do not accidentally alter defaults that future projects and billing records rely on.

InteractionsEdit Client form: inspect commercial context inputs before pressing Update.
  4. Save and re-open the client detail page to verify the exact changes landed. Confirm linked projects still sit under the same account and no naming fragmentation was introduced.

InteractionsEdit Client form: click Update, then review Client Detail and linked projects.
    Open workflow: Client Detail
  5. If active project setup depends on this correction, continue to project maintenance next so project-level metadata matches the updated client context.

InteractionsAfter client update, open relevant project records to verify client-facing context is now correct.
    Open workflow: Edit Project

What to review

Page header and breadcrumb

Confirms whether you are creating or editing, gives you the back path, and is the quickest way to avoid updating the wrong record.

Primary form sections

The form is grouped so you can complete one block at a time instead of hunting for every field in a single long screen.

Required inputs and field labels

Every required label tells you what must exist before the record can be saved; blank or invalid values should be corrected before moving on.

Validation and inline errors

Use these messages as instructions, not warnings to dismiss. They tell you exactly which field blocks save and why.

Primary save action

Commits the record only after the form validates. Use it after reviewing every section because it is the action that changes workspace data.

Cancel or return action

Leaves the form and takes you back without finishing the workflow. Use it when you opened the wrong record or need to check related data first.

Current client identity

Confirm you opened the correct client before editing because this record may already have many linked projects.

Contact and company details

Update these values when the client contact or legal details change.

Commercial context fields

Review commercial defaults carefully because they can ripple into future work.

Guardrails

  • Existing linked records do not bypass form validation for required fields.
  • Editing clients usually requires elevated access over simple viewing.

If it starts drifting

  • If the wrong client opened, back out immediately instead of trying to rename it into a different account.
